Illinois EPA Lead Service Line Inventory Grant Funding Opportunity for Community Water Supplies

Posted by [email protected] on Oct. 21, 2022

Effective January 1, 2022, the Lead Service Line Replacement and Notification Act (LSLRNA) (Public Act 102-0613) replaced the former lead materials inventory requirements found in the Illinois Environmental Protection Act at 415 ILCS 5/17.11. The first purpose of the LSLRNA is to require owners and operators of community water supplies to develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive water service line material inventory and replacement plan. Communities will be able to prioritize and strategize the replacement of known lead service lines within their water distribution system through a well-developed materials inventory.

To assist communities in meeting the inventory requirements outlined in the LSLRNA, the Illinois EPA is making $2 million available through the Illinois EPA Public Water Supply Loan Program Loan Support funds for Lead Service Line Inventory (LSLI) Grants. The first round of the Lead Service Line Inventory Grant Program opened October 18, 2022 and will be accepting applications until Friday December 2, 2022 at 12pm.  Eligible applicants must be a local government unit as defined in 35 Illinois Administrative Code Part 365.  More information.
