June 28, 2024 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized amendments to the National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) for Lime Manufacturing Plants. This action establishes first-time maximum available control technology standards for previously unregulated emissions of hazardous air pollutants (HAP), including hydrogen chloride, mercury, organic HAP, and dioxin/furans that will limit emissions from new and existing sources in the lime manufacturing source category. EPA estimates that installation of controls for these pollutants will significantly reduce total HAP from the lime manufacturing industry by nearly 900 tons each year, protecting air quality and public health.
