Environmental Justice in Illinois: Current Policy and Emerging Trends

Chris Pressnall is the Environmental Justice Coordinator for the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. Before becoming the Environmental Justice Coordinator in 2017, he spent 19 years in the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency’s Division of Legal Counsel as an air enforcement attorney. During that time, he also served as legal counsel to the Illinois EP’s environmental justice program and negotiated several civil rights complaints filed against Agency pursuant to Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
As Environmental Justice Coordinator, he is responsible for developing and maintaining environmental justice policy documents, coordinating the Illinois Commission on Environmental Justice, and conducting enhanced public outreach activities in areas of environmental concern. In addition, he works directly with members of the public, community groups, industry and other government agencies to resolve issues raised by environmental justice communities.
