An exploration of climate change and the earth system – highlights from projection, adaptation, and mitigation research
With Guest Speaker: Daniel Horton, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Earth & Planetary Sciences
Climate Change Research Group
Northwestern University
The A&WMA Lake Michigan States Section and the Union League Club Environmental Committee are pleased to invite you to join us at the first Breakfast Briefing of the Climate Change Series on March 16, 2023. The second Breakfast Briefing of this series will be held in April (date/time to be announced). April’s presentation will cover Carbon Capture. Watch your emails for additional information.
In this talk Professor Horton will discuss his research on the observed and projected impacts of climate change, with a particular focus on Great Lakes regional hydrological variability. In addition, he will highlight his group’s work on solution focused research by exploring adaptation and mitigation initiatives, and their benefits and tradeoffs.
Professor Horton leads the Climate Change Research Group (CCRG) at Northwestern University. The CCRG uses numerical models, environmental observations, statistical analyses, and machine learning techniques to ask questions pertinent to Earth’s (and other planets’) climates. The CCRG studies an array of subjects across diverse spatiotemporal scales, including (i) extreme weather events, (ii) near-term meteorological, societal, and public health impacts of anthropogenic climate change, (iii) the co-benefits and tradeoffs of green infrastructure and transportation initiatives, (iv) the evolution of Earth’s climate system through geologic time, and (v) the potential habitability of planets outside of our solar system.
This is the first briefing in the Climate Change Series. The second briefing will be presented in April. Anyone who attendees the March 16th briefing will be eligible for a discount on the April briefing.
